Project 52 ’11 26: A Poem in a Pile

September 20, 2011

Jen Campbell is someone who I follow on Twitter (@aeroplanegirl) and her latest blog post has inspired me to write creatively, which I haven’t done here for a few weeks.

You may remember Project 52 ’11 19: A Surplus of Hay which featured this photo:

A Surplus of Hay

The basic premise is to create a poem using the titles from a pile of book. I wasn’t quite able to shoe-horn all the titles in but I quite like the end result. The upper-case letters denote a book title.

Seven Pillars of Wisdom

I sit beneath SEVEN PILLARS OF WISDOM
A PAIR OF BLUE EYES by my side,
THE WOMAN IN WHITE.

We are a long way from BRITISH MYTHS AND LEGENDS,
From THE DEATH OF KING ARTHUR
And CASTLE GAY.

Instead, we look on AENEID scenes –
THE PLAGUE DOGS and THE HIPPOPOTAMUS
Fighting on THE ISLAND OF SHEEP.

She read out LETTERS TO A YOUNG POET,
SELECTED TALES
Written in the CAPPUCCINO YEARS.
